Future Perfect
Adham is a teacher. He works at a university. He teaches ENG102 in
the spring. By the time he finishes teaching this spring, he will have taught
10 groups. He is going to have taught many students. Moreover, Ahmed must
finish teaching before exams start. He is working hard and, at this rate, he
will have finished teaching before they, exams, start. Adham and Ahmed will
have worked many long hours by the time they finish teaching in this spring.
Today we are going to talk about the Future Perfect.
The Future Perfect refers to an action that will be completed in
the future. When we use the Future
Perfect, we are visualizing ourselves that we are in the future and
looking back at an action that will be completed. Most of the time, we use this
tense with a time expression.
Now let’s have an example from the text
above.
Example: “By the time he finishes teaching this
spring, he will have taught 10 groups.”
This example shows that when Adham finishes
teaching in this spring, he will have already taught 10 groups of classes.
So, we have two actions that will take
place in the future. Let’s say that X is “finishes teaching” and the green line
is “will have already taught”, so when X happens, the other action will have
already happened.
Now let’s see how the Future Perfect is
formed.
Future
Perfect has two different forms: "will have done" and "be going
to have done." Future Perfect forms are usually interchangeable.
“Will have done” and “be going to
have done”
